On September 30, 2026, the Ruisdael Science Day took place in The Green Village in Delft. It brought together the Dutch atmospheric research community, with a focus on campaigns and model–observation comparisons. Christine Unal, Remko Uijlenhoet, Herman Russchenberg and Uli Dusek, who are also part of the PHARA consortium, were among those attending.
This year’s edition was a special one. Herman Russchenberg handed over the Scientific Coordination of the Ruisdael Observatory to Uli Dusek (University of Groningen) and Arnoud Apituley (KNMI). A small ceremony marked the moment, with a touch of nostalgia.
PHARA contributed a poster, “Early development of PHARA: a polarimetric Ku-band phased-array radar for rapid cloud and precipitation observations”, on the work of Linda Bogerd. Several colleagues stopped by to ask how the project is progressing.
Within the Ruisdael community, TU Delft brings the expertise in radar meteorology, alongside groups working on trace gases, in-situ and remote sensing observations, modelling, and aerosol–cloud interactions. “It’s valuable to share developments like PHARA with this broad community,” says Christine Unal. “Whenever we talk about it, people are curious to learn more.”
