Congratulations and Welcome to Dr. Tworit Kumar Dash

We would like to congratulate Dr. Tworit Kumar Dash on successfully defending his PhD thesis “On Doppler Processing for Fast Scanning Weather Radars” and to welcome him to PHARA as a postdoctoral researcher at TU Delft, starting March 1st.

Dr. Dash’s research addresses a key challenge in modern, multifunctional ground-based weather radar systems, particularly those deployed at airports, which are designed to detect and track point-like targets, such as birds and drones. Therefore, these radars scan the field of view in azimuth very fast to get quick updates on the whereabouts of these targets. The fast-scanning nature of these radars limits their capacity to accurately estimate parameters for weather applications, such as the precipitation intensity and velocity distribution parameters of the raindrops during rainy conditions. This thesis aims to develop novel techniques to estimate the parameters related to the precipitation Doppler spectrum with limited time on target. In addition to estimating the parameters, this thesis extensively discusses the trade-offs and recommends application-specific measurement techniques.

We are excited to have Dr. Dash on board and look forward to his contributions to PHARA!
