From 4 to 9 October, PHARA researchers Alexander Yarovoy, Bart Smolders, Gabriele Federico, Yanki Aslan and Tworit Dash joined the international microwave, RF and radar community at the 29th European Microwave Week (EuMW) at ExCeL London.
Gabriele Federico co-chaired the special session “Active Integrated Phased Arrays and Tx/Rx Module Technologies” and attended the Automotive Forum and EuRAD. “Participation at EuMW was highly valuable from both technical and networking perspectives,” he says.
Yankı Aslan gave a workshop talk on “Multiple Beamforming Phased Array Architectures for NTN User Terminals”. TU Delft and Robin Radar Systems also presented their joint work “Analysis of Echoic Conditions, Signal-to-Noise Ratio, and Angle of Arrival Effects on Active Phased Array Calibration”, by Muhammad Rizqi (TU Delft and Robin Radar Systems), Guilherme Theis (Robin Radar Systems) and Yankı Aslan (TU Delft).
At EuRAD, Tworit Dash presented SPLIT, the Single-Polarization Likelihood Inversion Technique, work with Hans Driessen, Oleg Krasnov and Olexander Yarovoy. A fast-scanning weather radar gets only a short look at each location, which makes it hard to separate air motion from falling raindrops. SPLIT uses the full Doppler spectrum to retrieve wind, drop size and fall velocity with their uncertainties, supporting better wind retrieval. A preprint is available.
Tworit also co-authored a paper on reconstructing phased-array radiation patterns from sparse measurements, presented by Máté László Iványi with Yankı Aslan, in collaboration with Université Côte d’Azur and supported by the Future Network Services programme.
The team returns from London with new contacts and ideas to follow up, from phased-array hardware to weather-radar retrieval, all feeding into the next steps of PHARA.
